90 FOOT PORTABLE ALUMINUM SCAFFOLD TOWER
Climbing and inspecting a 90 foot portable aluminum scaffold tower. What areas of the 90 foot portable aluminum scaffold tower did I check first before ascending the 90 foot scaffold tower? What I was looking for and found while climbing the 90 foot portable aluminum scaffold tower.
The morning of the 90 foot aluminum scaffold tower inspection the fog was so thick I could not see the aluminum scaffold tower from the parking lot. Once I was at the base of the 90 foot scaffold tower I looked up and could not see the top of the aluminum scaffold tower. I was only able to see to the first guy line connection point on the aluminum scaffold tower which was at 18’.
Like any equipment it needs to be taken care of and checked periodically. The Aerial Work Platforms or Elevated Platforms like your scissor lifts, boom lifts and reach forklifts all need periodical checks. The industry calls for three quarterly and one annual check by a qualified mechanic. This person can be an in house employee or an outside company. After the check any deficiencies are corrected and noted and the report has to be retained for three years.
Let me note here that I have sent an email to our safety department to see if they have any information that I may have missed regarding inspection schedules for large semi permanent scaffold towers.
The procedure I followed was explained to me by UpRight Scaffold U.S.A. LLC regarding the 90 foot portable aluminum scaffold tower.
First thing is to make sure your weather conditions are good for a person to safely ascend the aluminum scaffold tower. Today it was foggy but after checking the guy wire anchor points and testing the tension of the guy wire with a Tensiometer the fog had burned off and it was a sunny day with no wind.
The inspections was a visual inspection to look for any damaged aluminum scaffold sections, missing parts, improperly installed parts or miss use of the aluminum scaffold tower.
After my findings I sat down with the customer and went over what I had found and answered any of their questions. Then I put together an in-depth report on my findings and sent the customer a copy and UpRight Scaffold U.S.A. LLC the same.
As you have seen from the photo’s it is always a good idea to inspect your equipment and the aluminum scaffold tower is equipment. It might not drive or move but conditions from the environment and people can change the structural integrity of this system.
